A
federal judge rejected the proposed settlement in the anti-competitive
bidding case involving Gunnison Energy
Corp. and SG Interests Ltd where the two companies are alleged to have agreed
that only SG Interests would bid on federal leases and then the two would split
the acreage. While the federal
authorities involved agreed to the terms of the settlement, the judge held that
the settlement did not adequately protect public interest because it did little
to dissuade the questionable business practices alleged.
