The
Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission voted to approve new setback
requirements for oil and gas wells in Colorado, effective August 1, 2013.
The rules will require new wells to be located 500 feet or more from
building units, and 1,000 feet from high occupancy structures such as schools
and hospitals. Operators will have
landowner waiver and Commission variance procedures available as possible
exceptions to the setback requirements. Additionally, the Director has discretion to grant exceptions for new wells or production facilities on existing locations.
