Ron Binz, former chairman of the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, withdrew his name from consideration to lead the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission following opposition from members of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.  Binz, an outspoken supporter of renewable energy development, was opposed by conservative groups as being against use of coal and natural gas for power generation.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is seeking public comment on a proposed uranium mill in Colorado.  Energy Fuels Resources Corp. has proposed the mill which would process up to 500 tons of ore per day, and would be the first uranium mill in the United States in over 25 years.  The meeting will take place in Nucla, Colorado on August 13, 2013 and written comments may be submitted to CDPHE until September 13, 2013.

The Senate confirmed Gina McCarthy as the new Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) after delaying the confirmation for over four months.  The Senate voted 59-40 to confirm the controversial nomination.  Prior to this most recent confirmation, President Obama appointed McCarthy as Assistant Administrator for EPA's Office of Air and Radiation in 2009.

President Obama nominated former Colorado Public Utility Commissioner (PUC), Ron Binz to head the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).  Binz served as Chair of the Colorado PUC from 2007-2011 and is a strong proponent of renewable energy.  

In his long-anticipated speech on climate change, President Obama addressed his pending decision on the Keystone XL pipeline, stating that "[t]he net effects of the pipeline’s impact on our climate will be absolutely critical to determining whether this project is allowed to go forward."  Despite his comments on the issue, his position on the pipeline remains unclear with advocates on both sides of the debate citing to this speech as evidence that he is likely deny or approve based on their respective positions.

The Weber Law Firm, LLC proudly supports the Colorado Bar Associations' 2013 Fire Restoration Projects. The Project included planting over 3,000 trees and spreading seeds and mulch in five different areas throughout Colorado which were devastated by wildfires. 

The Department of Energy decided to allow the Freeport LNG Terminal on Quintana Island, Texas to export natural gas to countries that do not have free trade agreements with the United States.  The decision allows for a rate of up to 1.4 billion cubic feet a day to be exported from the facility.  The Freeport LNG terminal had previously been approved to export LNG to free trade agreement countries.  The decision is the second of its kind to win approval from the DOE, as the Sabine Pass LNG terminal in Cameron Parish, Louisiana was approved for LNG export in 2011.
