The
United States District Court in Denver held today that the U.S. Bureau of Land
Management (BLM) must disclose the names of the parties nominating tracts of public
land for oil and gas development. This
ruling rejects the existing BLM policy of keeping the nominating individual or
company's identity secret until after the sale of the lease(s).
The case originated in a suit by Citizens for a Healthy Community and
the Western Environmental Law Center regarding leases in Colorado’s North Fork
Valley.
